Meaning
The fear of remaining
single or unmarried or being married to the wrong person.
Anuptaphobia –the fear of
being single
Anuptahobia is the
irrational fear of staying single or of not being in a romantic relationship
with anyone. People who suffer from this condition may experience very intense
anxiety as a result of their fear of being alone. Their anuptaphobia may be so
severe that they may almost ever be single.
Someone with
anuptaphobia may irrationally fear that they may end up being single for the
rest of their lives or that they will die old and alone.
Such fears are very
much out of touch with reality as no one can predict the future.
In fact, all people can suffer from a certain
fear of being single in many moments of our lives.
Especially in those
moments when we end a relationship or start having problems with our partner,
we can feel a certain fear of the idea of being alone and losing the company we
have had for so long.
Even
when a person with anuptaphobia knows they are physically safe, they may live
in fear of;
1-intense anxiety when not in
a romantic relationship
2-anxiety when thinking of
being single
3-may quickly jump into
relationship
4-inability to cope with
strong emotion
5-low self-esteem and very
self-critical
Cause of anuptaphobia
There are many factors that can
influence the development of anuptaphobia .
Verbal information
during childhood can development of anuptaphobia. It is greed that the social
pressure and rejection that exists on the elderly can be factors that increase the
prevalence of this disorder.
